Winner Announcement

On May 13, 2025, the 1st Intra-University Research Expo, organized by the Research and Publication Unit (RnPU) of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP), celebrated innovative student projects across departments. Among the selected entries, LifeBox - a compact, solar-powered emergency shelter for disaster-affected communities - was awarded 2nd Runner-Up in the Poster Presentation category, along with a prize of BDT 5,000.

Designed as a rapid-deployment solution for families displaced by floods, LifeBox includes essential features packed into a suitcase-sized unit: solar panel with battery backup, foldable waterproof tent, rechargeable LED lighting, USB charging ports, portable gas stove, and lightweight easy-to-carry design.

The project was developed by Md. Mehedi Hasan Munna (ID: 24108054), a student of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), with the aim of combining low-cost engineering with real-world humanitarian impact.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Alamzeb Farjad Ahmed (Member, Board of Trustees), Prof. Dr. Shah Murtaza Rashid Al Masud (Head, Dept. of CSE), Assistant Professor Tanjina Helaly (Convener, RnPU), and Mr. Masum Howlader (Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE). Mr. Masum Howlader personally handed over the award, and judges appreciated LifeBox for scalability and relevance in climate resilience efforts.
